January 2012
Dear Maggie Montclair,
I went shopping for my only grandchild. He will be going to college next fall and wanted a new computer. I was delighted that I could afford to get him exactly what he wanted. He wrote it down for me, and I headed to the electronics store with credit card in hand.
Fortunately, at least I originally thought it was fortunate, the store was not busy. I immediately went to the counter under the 'computers' sign. One young man was talking on the phone, and the other two clerks were visiting with each other. When the phone call ended, the three looked at me and walked away.
Am I now invisible? Is that what happens when one turns seventy? I was stunned and stood there for a few minutes before leaving that store and spending my five hundred dollars somewhere else. Should I have said something to the store manager?
Invisible in the mall
Dear Can't be seen,
It is not too late to e-mail the company and explain to them what happened at their store. Give them the address of the store and the date and time of the incident. A reputable business wants to know when their employees are not doing the job they are being paid to do. M
P.S. My friend Gertie never allows herself to be ignored. She doesn't mind a little drama while shopping. (or any other time) I can just hear her calling "yahoo" to those three clerks. "Over here! Over here!"
Then, just to give them a taste of their own rudeness, she would take up their time and leave without buying anything. Most of us won't go to that extreme, but we can enjoy knowing that Gertie
does it for us. *
